What should I know about FENSA?

• All Replacement Double Glazing now comes within the scope of Building Regulations.
  
  
• If you use a FENSA registered installer you do not need to obtain approval from your Local Authority Building Control Department to replace your windows which can take time and associated charges can be incurred.
  
  
• FENSA stands for the Fenestration Self-Assessment scheme.  Why Fenestration?  Fenestration means the design and placing of windows in a building. 
  
  
• FENSA was set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) to allow registered companies to self-certify that their installations comply with current Building Regulations.
  
  
• FENSA regularly assesses the register of approved installers to ensure standards are met and maintained.
  
  
• Building Regulation Approval or a FENSA certificate is required to ensure that each installation complies with current thermal performance standards to reduce energy loss in line with Government policy.
  
  
• FENSA Building Regulation certificates can be incorporated into the ‘HIP’ Home Information Pack if you are selling your house and your windows have been replaced since April 2002 must be kept safe as your Solicitor will need sight of it for your conveyance.
