Casement Windows

  • Casement windows fit well with nearly every type of home. Our casement windows are attached to a frame using hinges — with the option of having them open inwards or outwards, with the window top or side hung.

Top hung casement windows have hinges at the top, and open from the bottom of the frame — meaning they (mostly!) keep out the rain if you leave them open. Side hung windows offer superior ventilation (they can be angled sail-style to direct a breeze indoors) and are easy to open and close.

Casement windows are possibly our most popular make of window, and are manufactured to your exact specifications in our state-of-the-art factory, before being fitted by our team of expert engineers. What’s more, they’re available in many different designs and colour finishes, to ensure your new casement windows fit the unique look of your home.

Common questions

What is a casement window?

Casement windows are one of the most versatile window designs. The window’s sash is joined to its frame with hinges that are kept out of sight in a euro groove. Casement windows’ versatility lets you opt for single windows, paired windows or any variety or number of smaller windows within the same frame. They open outwards and are protected against slamming in sudden gusts of wind by friction hinges.

Most casement windows use side hinges, but we also fit top-hung casement windows. These hinge at the top of the frame, and open via a handle at the bottom. They’re often used in kitchens (they’re easy to open) and bathrooms (allowing you to ventilate the space without sacrificing privacy). Top hung windows also help to block out water in a sudden rainfall — they’re common in European mountain villages for this reason!

What’s the difference between a casement window and a picture window?

Casement windows are attached to the window frame by a hinge and can be opened to allow fresh air to circulate around your home. Picture windows, on the other hand, are designed to allow for a beautiful panoramic view of your outside space.

Whilst casement windows are usually quite small, consisting of multiple sashes or panes, picture windows are made up of far fewer window panes, which offers an improvement to your outside view. However, picture windows are fixed in place and can’t be opened.

How much do casement windows cost?

A tricky question. The price of casement windows can vary greatly, depending on the material the frame is made from, the complexity of the fitting-job, and any nuances in their finish, colour or overall design. There’s no single, easy figure to give.

If in doubt, uPVC casement windows are usually the most cost-effective material to choose. If you’d like an additional finish like a timber-look alternative, a flush design or choose hardy, sleek aluminium frames, that’s likely to cost you more. The best way to assess the cost of your planned casement windows is to contact us today for a free, no obligation quote.

Are casement windows more energy efficient?

When modern casement windows are closed, they’re fully sealed — an airtight seal is created by the window sash pressing against its frame. This prevents cold air from outside getting in, while ensuring that the warm air inside doesn’t escape. This design feature naturally insulates your home, resulting in lower energy bills: your room should feel warmer, even without switching on the heating.

For maximum energy efficiency, casement windows can even be triple-glazed. This means you spend even less money on heating your home, meaning even more-costly triple-glazing can have a positive ROI (i.e. you’ll find they pay for themselves in the long run!).

Are casement windows secure?

About as far as secure as any window can be! Our casement windows come with specially-designed hook shaped locks that fit directly into their frame, making them very difficult to break into from the outside. Should an intruder try to pry them open, casement windows make it difficult to do. Our commonly-fitted multi-locking system can add another element of protection.

Launa’s casement windows have the additional benefit of being certified by the Official Police Security Initiative. We hope this lets you and your loved ones feel safer.

Are casement windows worth it?

Casement windows can create a bright, airy space, giving your property a refreshing ambience and improving your enjoyment of your home. They’re also excellent insulators thanks to our compression seal technology, which we hope will help you to save on your energy bills.

Finally, casement windows are often the window of choice for those with limited mobility: they can be fitted with a geared crank mechanism that opens and closes the window, requiring little effort. Very often, casement windows can be readily opened and closed with one hand.
