Did you know that up to 30% of a home’s total heat is lost through its windows and doors?
Reduced energy bills, a smaller carbon footprint, reduced condensation, a warmer home and less noise pollution is what energy-efficient windows offer.
Although energy-saving windows and energy-efficient doors might cost a bit more initially, choosing eco-friendly double-glazing will reduce cost in the long run. In fact it’s been estimated that savings on energy bills of up to £150 a year can be made by switching from single glazing to double glazing.
How energy-efficient windows and doors work
The gap between the two panes of glass within double glazing is filled with air. Heat loss through conduction is reduced as air is a poor conductor of heat. The heat transfer by convection is also reduced by making the gap very narrow.
The energy rating of windows and doors
In the last few years ‘white goods’ such as fridges, freezers and dishwashers have energy ratings, for instance an ‘A’ rated fridge will cost less to run and save more energy than a ‘D’ rated machine. This scheme has now been introduced to the window industry.
A window is rated on the level of insulation it provides – a combination of the insulation of the frame, and that of the sealed unit that is used. This factors how it stops heat passing through it, how much sunlight travels through the glass and how little air can leak in or out of the window.
The Energy Saving Trust endorses any windows rated ‘B’ or above. A window’s energy rating should now always be labelled. Launa’s ‘A’ rated energy casement windows provide the very top-level of heat retention for your home for example.
Introducing Plenitherm – the most energy-efficient glass on the market
Launa is proud to supply Planitherm – a new generation of energy saving window glass that’s rated as the most energy efficient window glass on the market.
Using advanced thermal coating technology it reflects radiated heat back into a room while capturing free energy from the sun’s heat and light. It makes your home lighter, brighter and ultra energy-efficient.
